Zhigang Ye: A Map Without Treasure

£250.00

The work begins with a portrait photograph whose subject is blurred and out of focus. Through multiple nested programmatic loops running iteratively, it marks the coordinates of the points to which machine vision “attends,” and, at different temperatures, computational and also chromatic, visualises them and links them into a web. Nine years later, looking back again at that title, which once signalled a technological turning point, “Attention Is All You Need,” I find myself already positioned from an entirely different standpoint. We are living in an era of visual redundancy; at times, facing images feels like being a child holding a treasure map.

Print size 82.5×55cm

Prined on Hahnemühle Baryta
