This project captures the moment of light and the loop of metaphor, destinies, and Taoism. The moment was captured on stage in collaboration with the experimental physical drama 'THREE ONE,' where three female characters act in prison in a mental state of ‘waiting for death’.

They are all in prison awaiting trial on trumped-up charges rooted in conflicts, complex relations, and power dynamics in family formation: one for the pure faith of independence, one for fighting patriarchy, and one for romantic relationships in incandescence and sadness.

About the artist

Xinyu Gao is a photographer, filmmaker, and researcher in experimental art and audiovisual filmmaking.

She is obsessed with the visible and invisible in everyday secrets and surreal experiments. Stirred by embodied senses, emotions, and memories, her sensitivity nurtures creation as instinct. She is drawn to visibility, invisibility, and the possibilities of aesthetic and cultural diversity.
